Industrial News Buzz - Las Vegas NV (November 30, 2010) EastCoast CAD/CAM announced today the release of two fully integrated Design-to-Fabrication software toolsets: MEP Fabrication Version 1.0 for AutoCAD Revit MEP 2011, and Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP 2011 Version 3.2. EastCoast CAD/ CAM's solutions link the real-world sheet metal and piping fabrication capabilities to Autodesk's MEP design applications with enhanced functionality and tighter integration for improved design to fabrication workflows.

EastCoast CAD/CAM's solutions deliver an important converging technology specific to a design-to-fabrication workflow that can produce and manufacture better built structures and more streamlined projects, while also minimizing impacts, reducing inefficiencies, and creating a safer environment in the field. With this initial release of MEP Fabrication to support Revit MEP, it also represents the first release of EastCoast's patented "Design-to-Fabrication" process. MEP Fabrication extends the strength of our design-to-fabrication workflow with AutoCAD MEP to include capabilities to import Revit MEP HVAC design models. This combined solution provides sheet metal professionals with design and fabrication tools reflecting real manufacturer content that is critical for getting the job done, directly inside the industry-leading MEP design applications by Autodesk.

According to Laura Gutwillig, Senior Business Line Manager for MEP Engineering at Autodesk, "EastCoast CAD/CAM Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP and MEP Fabrication solutions provides the MEP contractor market with an integrated solution for sheet metal and piping design to fabrication. Our continued collaboration with EastCoast CAD/CAM is helping meet the evolving needs of the industry."

Sheet metal contractors and engineers can take advantage of this elegant, yet simple, workflow that enables them to take a fully engineered HVAC design from Autodesk Revit MEP and automatically convert the system layouts with real manufacturer geometry and specifications to the industry-standard AutoCAD environment for preparation to drive to fabrication. The workflow eliminates redrawing, and delivers fabrication-ready models inside AutoCAD MEP for final detailed coordination and downloading to highly efficient sheet metal plasma cutting machines. Contractors and engineers have been waiting for and anticipating this release, the impact of which will play a significant role in furthering the adoption of EastCoast CAD/CAM Design to Fabrication solutions.

Brad Reimler, Lead Designer at Icon Mechanical, Granite City Il., was one of the beta testers for EastCoast CAD/CAM MEP Fabrication, and commented that "the major value to MEP Fabrication comes when we are working in a Plan and Spec environment and we are receiving completely designed Revit MEP models." Reimler further states: "We will no longer have to redraw the duct work, saving us significant time and detailing resources."

In addition, Version 3.2 of EastCoasts widely acclaimed Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP, now supports AutoCAD MEP 2011 and 2010 SP2 (Service Pack 2) software. This version provides users with more tools for building and editing custom duct and pipe, and delivers enhanced pipe libraries with both new and updated content. EastCoast CAD/CAM is currently shipping its new Version 3.2 software solution to customers who have active subscriptions, and has made it generally available to new subscribers.

"As a Preferred Industry Partner for Autodesk MEP Engineering, EastCoast creates products that are fully integrated within Autodesk MEP solutions, thereby providing users with the tools to effortlessly create fabrication-ready models more efficiently and accurately," stated David Derocher, EastCoast CAD/CAM President. Our customers benefit from the enhanced value of EastCoast solutions that support design-to-fabrication workflows within Autodesk Revit MEP and AutoCAD MEP. Using this integrated solution, EastCoast customers can design with fabrication in mind much earlier on in the design process. They can minimize conflicts with other trades and construction partners from the very beginning and throughout the life-cycle of the project."
